Amelia Cunningham

Amelia Cunningham is the central female character in The Book of Sarah trilogy. She is the human body that houses the soul that is Sarah, and it is Sarah who has lived countless lifetimes since her first incarnation on earth.

Amelia is a British lawyer who relocated to New York from London several years before the book begins. She was born on the English South Downs, in Sussex near the city of Brighton. She was born into a family of farmers and has an older brother, William, and a younger sister, Sienna. She is close to her family who she has regularly selected in previous lifetimes to be her family. Amelia went to an independent school before going to Cambridge to read Law. She secured a job in one of the leading London law firms to continue her legal studies, and specialises in establishing trusts and foundations, primarily for the rich and famous. This was how she first met Devon Armitage, a Quarterback for a New York football team, when she was working in a New York law firm before she goes to work for Lucas at his hedge fund. Her specialism was one of the reasons why he was able to recruit her to his hedge fund, because he wanted to establish an education foundation.

Having a soul like Sarah’s means she has a memory of every lifetime she has lived, for more than 2,000 years. As a soul, Sarah makes her presence known very early on, and Amelia was aware from being a small child of who her soul truly was, and what her role was in the world. She never spoke of any of this to her family, but it explained why she felt she had known some people in her life for a very long time while she felt she hadn’t known others at all, even close family members such as grandparents. Her life growing up on the farm meant she learned a very healthy love and respect for nature and its importance to humanity, which was reinforced by the knowledge given to her by Sarah. She was often seen as other-worldly by her peer group though people were always drawn to her because of her sheer positive presence.

She knew early on that she would likely have to seek out Lucas again in this lifetime, that he would make an overture that she would have to look out for, but the 150 years she had spent in lifetimes away from him were now over. She always felt conflicted by this awareness, knowing that she did want to see him and be with him again, but being reluctant to go through the pain and suffering of losing him again. But even at a young age, she was whispering and nudging those with influence through her meditations, and knew that there needed to be a combined effort with Lucas if they were going to hope to overcome Judd.

Which is how she found herself standing outside Lucas’s building at the start of book One.
