Have you ever thought that your life just wasn’t working out the way you wanted it to? That no matter what you did, things just didn’t seem to go right. In fact, things seemed to work out significantly worse than if you hadn’t done anything in the first place? Yes? Then you might want to read on…
Actually, I think most people have felt like this at one time or another. As though everything feels stacked against them while everyone else around them seems to be getting on with their lives very nicely, thank you. I know that’s how I have felt for a long time. As though everything I do seems to come up against insurmountable obstacles and I am doomed to fail. The truth is, of course, that those obstacles aren’t insurmountable. I have just been viewing things through the wrong lens. And this can be true of all of us.
In my trilogy, The Book of Sarah, I write about light and dark and the constant efforts to create balance between the two. In my interpretation, this balance is held by five enlightened beings who work through mankind to create that balance. One of the enlightened beings is, of course, the representative of darkness and another is the representative of light. Darkness has no support from any other enlightened being because he doesn’t have to. His job is surprisingly easy. The good being, though, has a much tougher job so is supported by three other enlightened beings to provide the greater impetus. They have had hundreds of lives together in doing this work, and they remember each and every one. They have a direct line to Source and know exactly how the universe works, using that to their advantage. The downside of this, though, is that while humans have free will, they don’t. They have to follow the script that has essentially been written for them because in their hands is the future of humanity, though the final outcome rests on which way humanity as a collective decides to go based on its free will. With balance, there are always at least two choices.
This is entirely an allegory of humans. We have a dark and a light side. The light side is always our soul because, fundamentally, it is pure. The dark side can be our egoic minds which are constantly focused on keeping us alive and to that end is inherently negative. And it is this dichotomy which leads us to see life through certain lenses. If we see life through the egoic lens, invariably we will see the negative to prepare us for any imminent danger. Our expectations will be that ‘if it looks too good to be true, it usually is’ and that will be the outcome that is perfectly provided to us. As in my blog the other day, the universe always delivers to us what we expect. And that is determined by the lens we choose to see life through. The tragedy is, most people are unaware that they even have a choice. That most people are unaware of just how powerful we are if we listen to our souls.
I have a certain set of circumstances around me currently which are not positive. They have been going on now for a couple of years, and I have gotten too comfortable in my parasympathetic nervous system being in a constant state of high alert. It is where I currently appear to feel ‘safe’ and expect the worst possible outcome to happen. I have always had a wonderful ability to catastrophise, and that has just gotten more so over the past couple of years. I am very spiritual, and I am interested also in things such as tarot and astrology. Recently, there have been a lot of positive messages from those areas about how things are going to change around in the next few weeks – and I now realise my egoic mind is saying ‘yeah right, haven’t seen any evidence yet’. And that is where the problem lies – I haven’t seen any evidence. But then, I am working from the premise of ‘I will believe it when I see it’, when in reality I need to be working from the premise of ‘I will see it when I believe it’. Because I have been looking through the lens from the wrong angle.
I have been seeing all the problems, I haven’t been seeing where things are good. And if you focus on the problem, you just get more of the same. Whereas if you focus on where things are good, you will get more of the same. Moreover, if you decide what it is you are going to expect, the universe will conspire to deliver for you – because that is what it does. You don’t have to deserve it, you don’t have to be worthy, you just have to establish what you expect. The universe doesn’t discriminate against us, we do. The universe nudges you to take the inspired action towards your expectation, even when that is negative which makes it appear as though the universe is conspiring against you. But it isn’t. You are conspiring against yourself with your negative outlook.
It is easier said than done to suddenly turn everything into a positive and look through the lens of everything being rosy. I know this only too well. But I am still viewing the negative aspects of my life through the prism of ‘well, at least I am still alive’ which is certainly something that pulls my thought process around. That and reminding myself that I am divinely loved and protected, which I am and which also helps to pull me up short when I am spiralling. But it is also viewing life through the lens of ‘what if everything works out just as you want?’. What does that feel like? What would have to happen to make that true?
To begin with you have to at least have an idea of what it is you want. So, for one thing for me, it would be for my trilogy to become bestsellers. And in order for that to happen, more people need to know the books exist. For that to happen, I need to promote the books more and talk about them more. So, be prepared for more references to them in my blogs. I also need to put more content onto social media platforms such as TikTok (you can follow me on there too if you like!), and make more of a concerted effort on Facebook and Instagram, neither of which I am keen on (because I don’t understand the algorithm as I said the other day), but which are useful tools for promotion if used properly. And I need to make more use of my website as a tool, provide more information on it and direct more people to it. You see? This is how asking that question works. Inspired ideas, which will lead to more inspired ideas about content creation. And when I hit barriers such as I hate filming myself for video content, getting over that nonsense and just going for it. Getting into the flow.
Viewing life through the lens of deciding that the good things are already happening to me and will continue to happen to me is the way to get all of that to show up in the 3D of life. Because good things are always happening, but when you view everything through the lens of the negative egoic mind, you don’t see it. It’s like in tarot the 4 of Cups card – the boy is sitting there mourning what was in 3 of the Cups which are now empty, while a hand is coming from the heavens with the Ace of Cups being held out to the boy representing fresh starts and new opportunities…which are being totally ignored. He is focusing on what he doesn’t have rather than what he does. The theme is carried through to the 5 of Cups where the man is now mourning what was lost from the 3 cups without turning around and seeing that he still has 2 full cups behind him. If he was just to turn around…in fact, if he had just seen what the universe was offering him in the previous card, he wouldn’t have to work so hard to get to the 9 of Cups which is wish fulfilment, and the 10 of Cups which is being emotionally and spiritually fulfilled.
There are no insurmountable obstacles in life, just the lens through which we see them. You can either catastrophise or celebratorise (I know, not a word…yet!) your future in your mind. Whichever way you go, you are setting up your expectations for how things will turn out…and the universe always delivers on that. Perfectly.
